FAQs

How does Co-Vo work?

Session participants receive a Zoom link, and join the Co-Vo Zoom Room at their session time. They then remain muted while they sing along to a vocalizing routine that Julia guides, live, from her studio.

For Co-Vo Original, once you have requested and received the access link, you can use it to join any Co-Vo Original session. (The link remains the same for these recurring sessions.) There is no need to RSVP or sign up.

For Co-Vo Fundamentals, Co-Vo Pro, or Spotlight Seminar sessions, you will receive a specific access link via e-mail upon registering.

What is the suggested donation for a Co-Vo Original class?

Since Co-Vo’s very first workout on April 8, 2020, Julia and her husband Omar have provided over 300 free 30-minute vocal workouts, called Co-Vo Original, to singers around the globe. In order to continue their work, they are now suggesting a donation of $4 per class attended. The link to donate can be found here. You can donate for a single workout ($4), for a month’s worth of workouts ($30), or any amount of your choice, to reflect the number of workouts you actually attend, or the level of support you are able to provide. Donations are not required, and all singers are welcome at Co-Vo, regardless of their ability to donate.

What are the special benefits if I donate $40 or more in a single month?

Singers who donate $40 or more in a given month will receive a recorded workout and an opportunity to help shape Co-Vo’s upcoming offerings.

  1. You will receive a recorded 30-minute Co-Vo Original workout by the 4th of the following month, which will remain accessible to you for unlimited viewing during that month. (For example, if you donate $40 in April, your recording link will be emailed to you by May 4th, and remain available to you throughout May.)

  2. You will receive a survey at the start of the following month. You will have the opportunity to vote on issues related to Co-Vo’s immediate future, e.g., the topics of the brand-new workouts and masterclasses that Julia will offer that month.

You will also be able to suggest new workouts, and provide feedback about exercises and topics to include in regular Co-Vo sessions.

Are Co-Vo workouts recorded?

Co-Vo Original sessions (Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-6:30pm PT, free) are live only. Co-Vo workouts are designed to be interactive experiences, during which you receive real-time coaching from Julia, and are joined live by members of the classical singing community.

However, to accommodate singers who are unable to join at these scheduled session times, or who live in other time zones, all registration-based Co-Vo workouts and seminars are recorded. All registrants receive a video link to the workout within 24 hours of the live event, and the link remains active for 30 days (minimum) after the live event.

Recorded Co-Vo workouts and seminars are not downloadable. Each presentation is copyrighted, and is not to be copied or shared with others who were not registered for the event.

How do multiple session passes work?

Multi-session passes are discounted and currently offered for 5, 10, or 15 sessions, allowing singers to avoid repetitive purchases for frequent workouts.

Purchase a Workout Pass

Passes can be used for any Co-Vo Fundamentals or Co-Vo Pro session (not including Spotlight Seminars), and are good for 6 months from purchase date.

  • Upon purchase, you will receive an email with a certificate code, which will be associated with the e-mail address you used to purchase your pass.

  • When registering for a workout, use either your certificate code or e-mail address when prompted to "Redeem Coupon".

  • The system will keep track of your balance and remaining workouts.

For any questions about your pass, please contact Julia.

What is your cancellation/refund policy?

Reserved workouts and seminars are fully refundable up to 48 hours prior to the session start time. Cancellations within the 48-hour window are not refundable, but you will still receive the video recording of the workout or seminar, which will remain accessible to you for the advertised timeframe (usually one month).

How do I cancel an appointment?

In the confirmation e-mail you received when you registered, simply use the “Change/Cancel Appointment” button at the bottom of the message. Choose “Cancel” and confirm your choice. You will then receive an e-mail confirming your cancellation, and providing information about your refund options. (Please see cancellation/refund policy, above.)

How do I reschedule an appointment?

In the confirmation e-mail you received when you registered, simply use the “Change/Cancel Appointment” button at the bottom of the message. Choose “Reschedule”, select a new date in bold from the calendar, confirm the time, and click “Reschedule”. If you would like to switch to a different workout title, please contact Julia and she will assist you.

I’m not familiar with Zoom. How does it work?

Zoom is a user-friendly, cloud-based video communications app that allows virtual video and audio conferencing, webinars, and live chats. For extensive tutorials and other resources, please visit Zoom’s website.

Can everyone see me while I sing?

Only if you want them to. You can join Zoom calls with video, or with audio only. (“Audio only” means you can hear and see Julia, but no one can see or hear you.) But we’d love to see your face! It deepens our sense of community.

Can anyone hear me while I sing?

No. Participants remain muted during the vocal exercise session, but will be invited to unmute themselves during greetings, any Q&A periods, and sign-offs.

Is Co-Vo a voice lesson, or a voice class?

No. Co-Vo workouts allow you the opportunity to practice the technique that you are learning with your teacher.

Singers at every level of vocal development need an outside set of ears: a qualified instructor who is listening to their individual voices, sensitive to their needs, and guiding them towards their optimal vocal technique.

Julia will provide some technical suggestions during the sessions, based on her training and experience, teaching hundreds of classical singers over a 22-year teaching career. But these sessions are not a substitute for one-on-one study. In fact, if they raise any questions for you about your technique, please bring those questions to your teacher, who is the best person to advise you.

What if I’m not sure of my “level”—whether a particular workout will be appropriate for me?

Please contact Julia. She is always happy to consult with participants about what sessions will be right for them.
